Hi! Welcome to the new Crazy Cakes Blog!! My name is CeCe and I have been the face of Crazy Cakes since it opened in January, 2007. Now I will be its voice…or shall I say its type? Well, that’s neither here nor there. I will be the one sharing this conversation and all the news of Crazy Cakes with you!
I’m not sure if you know that we have our own coffee blends available at Crazy Cakes. Very Similar to excellent wine, or chocolate, coffee has flavor nuances that aficionados enjoy savoring. Before the doors opened for business the family approached Cupper’s Coffee about roasting and grinding beans for our drip coffee. Our love and NEED for a great cup of coffee sent us on a Cupper’s tasting experience, to perfect our blends. Out of those tastings three favorites emerged:
The NEW YORK BLEND –This is a mix of 2 dark roasted South American coffees balanced with a naturally smooth and exotic Indian coffee. This is full bodied, a little bold and rich in flavor. It has some natural sweetness along with a hint of ‘spicy’ and even ‘nutty’ undertones. Hmm…nutty, eh? Well, that works at CRRRAZZZ Y CAKES doesn’t it!!!
It was named for the ‘blend’ of people in New York City and Lethbridge who joined together to create the artwork, copy, and logo, into a website and a total brand package for Crazy Cakes. Donna Mehalko a native Albertan now living in New York, and friend of Denise’s, is the artistic genius who gave me, CeCe life! From a vision of Denise’s she was able to put on paper the look and feel of Crazy Cakes. Donna’s friend David Goodwin at Graphyte Design merged her artwork with the computer to design the website. Oh, by the way! David gave me my name! Thank goodness…I could have gone through life as just another nameless, pretty face!!
The FRENCH ROAST- It’s a classic European blend featuring equal amounts of natural sweetness and sharpness derived from a lot of sharp South American coffee and mixed with a bit of very smooth Central American coffee. The flavor is best described as “complex” and is definitely the boldest of the 3 custom roasts!
Why French roast you ask? Well, who doesn’t love Paris??? And the Eiffel Tower, well, it’s a perfect back drop for my outfit! Have you seen how Parisian I look in my beret and striped top!? Tres Chic!! Not only do I look great, but it’s a perfect cup of coffee!!
The BRIDGE BLEND – Named for Lethbridge and featuring our famous steel trestle bridge, this one is custom roasted for a Southern Alberta smooth flavor. It has equal amounts of African, South American and Asian beans. This aromatic blend is a little floral, a little fruity and a little sharp with a very smooth aftertaste.
Designed by CP Rail, the bridge was completed in 1909 (the same year as our building) and erected by a 100 man crew. It is the longest and highest of its kind in the world! It’s 1 mile, 47 feet long and 314 feet high and the cost to build in 1909 was $1,334,525.00. Just a little history for you! Lethbridge is also known as the Windy City. But look!! We had an unusually calm day for the picture…my hair is perfectly in place!
Through the month of January we will be featuring not only our “Died and Gone To Heaven” German Chocolate Cupcake. We have created a new Almond Cupcake, that at this point is nameless! Come into the shop, try it out and enter your name for it. If you are the winner, you will receive as a prize of a dozen mini cupcakes!! Yummy!!
Crazy Cakes is also offering for sale large scissor sugar cookies. The profits from the sale of these cookies will go to our friend Amy Biddeson’s project called Cutting Borders. Check it out at www.cuttingborders.com
